I had a chance to sit in on the SHRM10 social media panel featuring Curtis Midkiff, Mike Vandervort, Bryan Wempen, and Laurie Ruettimann. It was interesting that they stuck it in an early morning time slot in a private area instead of keeping it more public for people to participate and learn from the panel.
Hey, I’ll talk to any HR professional anywhere — even at 7 AM. :) Today’s session was meant for volunteers who are on the conference floor and can’t see much else. I was there for them.
That being said, I was on the 2009 blogger panel and I think SHRM doesn’t always know what to do with us. I applaud the efforts, though, and support it wherever & whenever I can… I speak with SHRM chapters, HR leaders, homeless people, etc.

Ben, I can hear the frustration and disappointment in your voice. I know it’s challenging but we have to just continue to work together with other HR pros in our space to get the word out where we can. If that means one at a time, so be it. Just this past week, one of our online colleagues and I shared Twitter and social media with 15 executives who were not using it. Some didn’t care and some are excited. But, at least that makes 15 more people who have heard and seen that it is not as dangerous or such a time waster as they thought.
Your personal efforts with your local SHRM chapter, with your blog outreach and with your involvement in HRevolution will help this move forward in our industry. You’re doing great!

Okay, I’m kicking myself because I thought that panel was yesterday when I had a conflict at that hour. If I had known it was today I would have been there. I had been disappointed that it was schedules for a time I had a previous commitment. Now I realize I must have read it wrong. Bummed!
